Newsletter 25th April 2025

Mr Berry's Message.
Dear Parents and Carers,
The sun is out and we have made a fantastic start to the summer term at New Islington!
It has been lovely to welcome all the children back and see lots of smiles in lessons and on the playground.
While this is our shortest half term, it is absolutely packed and we hope to share all the successes going on in school.
As always, thank you for your continued support.
Mr Berry
5RC Gardening Workshop
With the help of professional gardeners Rachel and Andy from PLANT Manchester, the children planted sunflower seeds in small pots. They also learnt to use the "broadcast-sowing" technique in designated flower beds around Angel Square. Thanks to the fantastic work, our city centre will be a lot greener and an excellent place to attract useful pollinators to our green spaces.
If you go for a walk near Angel Square, look out for the sunflower beds!
School Garden Sale
As part of our outdoor learning programme, the children in all classes have been growing plants from seed which have developed into plants for our learning terrace on the first floor, transforming it into a beautiful rooftop garden. They have been growing herbs, onions, garlic, carrots, tomatoes, potatoes, beans, peas and a range of flowers to attract useful pollinators.
We will be selling some of the children's home-grown organic vegetables near the school gate on Thursday 1st May from 3.15. Items will be priced between 50p and £1. Funds raised will be re-invested into the garden project to purchase more compost.

The course will be held here, you do not need to book but will need to bring ID and proof of address to be able to join.
Mrs Williams Book Recommendation
Each week, Mrs Williams (and maybe some other staff) will suggest a good book to read.
Nevermoor The Trials of Morrigan Crow Jessica Townsend
|
Nevermoor is the first in a fantastic series which follows the character Morrigan Crow. Morrigan is cursed to die on her eleventh birthday and blamed for every misfortune that happens in the town where she lives, from heart attacks to hail storms. However just before midnight the mysterious Jupiter North appears offering Morrigan another choice, the chance to join him in Nevermoor. In this magical world, she enters the trials for membership of the Wundrous Society, which promises friendship, family and an escape from her fate. But the four trials are anything but simple – especially the last one, which requires a special ability Morrigan is sure she doesn't have… However that is not the only danger ahead, there lies the shadowy mystery of the feared and revered Wundersmith. Who exactly is he and what does he want with Morrigan? A fantastic page turner, filled with magic, suspense and action. This is definitely one of my 10 ten of all childrens books and the sequels are excellent too! For ages 10 and above |
