Newsletter 14th March 2025

Here is the newsletter for this week
Mr Berry's Message.
Dear Parents /Carers,
There has been so much going on at New Islington this week!
Our year 4's have taken part in a music festival, our reception children have visited a medical centre, and it has been wonderful to welcome parents and children to the book fair. That's not to mention all the other wonderful learning that has taken place in all classrooms.
As always, thank you for your continued support,
Mr Berry
Online Safety
We know that many of the children play Roblox, please take some time to read the information below and discuss it with your child to make sure they are staying safe.
Manchester Schools are totally committed to the digital safety and wellbeing of their students. As part of this, we are running a workshop dedicated to helping parents understand the risks their children face in their online lives and the practical things parents can do to help. You are welcome to join this hour-long online workshop in which Katherine Howard, Head of Engagement and Education at Smoothwall will provide you with lots of valuable insights and tools.

Young Marketeers
All Year 5 children are taking part in the "Young Marketeers" programme this year, facilitated by Jannine Mc Mahon from the UK charity "School Food Matters". Children are provided with gardening workshops and learn how to grow vegetables, which they will sell in the City Centre at the end of this project, to raise funds for families on low income to encourage easy access to affordable healthy, locally grown food. This week, children have planted garlic, onions, tomatoes and potatoes in our roof-top garden.
Mrs Williams Book Recommendation
Each week, Mrs Williams (and maybe some other staff) will suggest a good book to read.
Jumanji Chris Van Allsburg
|
Chris Van Allsberg is one of my favourite children’s authors and illustrators. The art work in his books is absolutely beautiful and Jumanji is one of the best. Jumanji is the story of Judy and Peter who are left at home when their parents go out. They are told to keep the house tidy and soon get bored. When they go to the park they find a mysterious board game, called Jumanji: A Jungle Adventure Game. This is an exciting adventure that will appeal to lots of children. And remember - once a game of Jumanji is started, it will not be over until one player reaches the Golden city. For ages 6 and above |
Forest School Dates
It is essential that children have the right clothing and footwear, especially this time of year (we will go out in all weathers, except in extreme conditions (heavy wind and severe rain). Children must have appropriate clothing and warm shoes.

Improving attendance is everyone’s business. The barriers to accessing education are wide and complex, both within and beyond the school gates, and are often specific to individual pupils and families. At Co-op Academy New Islington, we will do all we can to support your family and ensure our academy is safe, calm and a supportive environment for your child. Let’s celebrate everyone’s success together.
Whole school attendance this week has been 95.6%
Well done to 6HD who have won the attendance award this week and 4JJ who won last week.
How can I improve my children’s attendance?
Follow NHS advice for any mild illnesses.
Promote good hand hygiene with your children.
Liaise with the Early Help team who will support you as a family.
Speaking to your child’s teacher as a collaborative approach is essential
