Mr Berry's Message.
Dear Parents and Carers,
Another wonderful week at New Islington! I particularly enjoyed hosting every class for a whole school assembly to relaunch our school rules of Ready, Respectful and Safe. We have been blown away by behaviour so far this term and it has been wonderful to see the children playing in the sun.
It was also fantastic to see how many parents attended our year 1 phonics workshop, led by Miss Oleksak. The dedication of our community towards the children's reading never ceases to inspire us.
As always, thank you for your continued support,
Mr Berry
Zoom session with author Mark Bradley
On Tuesday 29th April, our Y1, Y2, Y3, and Y4 classes joined a special Zoom session with Manchester Libraries, featuring award-winning author and Illustrator Mark Bradley, creator of the ‘Bumble and Snug’ series.
The children were very engaged, drawing their own characters to explore emotions, listening to a reading of the book by the author himself, and taking part in a Q&A where they asked questions and heard Mark’s answers. It was a wonderful event that sparked creativity and a love for storytelling! Look out for an email with printable resources for if your child would like to practise their drawings at home.

School Garden Project
Thank you to everyone who came to buy some of our school-grown garden produce yesterday. The children sold radishes, spring onions, lettuce, coriander, parsley, tomato plants and pea plants, all grown from seed.
Everything sold out within 15 minutes!! We raised £73.57, all money raised will go back into more resources for the garden project.
One of our families collects the food waste from school at the end of every day to take to their farm. They are now very kindly donating some compost made from the food waste so our children can grow more food! This is so wonderful and really helps the children understand the entire cycle from seed to plant and beyond.

Mrs Williams Book Recommendation
Each week, Mrs Williams (and maybe some other staff) will suggest a good book to read.
Where the Wild Things Are By Maurice Sandak
|
Where the Wild Things Are is a classic children’s picture book and was a firm favourite in my house when my son was in Reception. It is the story of Max, who is sent to bed by his mother after he is cheeky to her. In the story Max uses his imagination to sail away to the land of the Wild Things and instead of eating him they make him King of the Wild Things. The illustrations are stunning in this book and bring Max’s journey to life. It also is a great way into talking about children’s anger and how we need time to work through our emotions.
